DescriptionThe Squire Farm is an idyllic smallholding in the secluded, peaceful surroundings of Red lake Valley in the southwest comer of Shropshire. The farm consists of the farmhouse, barns and two cottages surrounded by twenty-five acres of woodland and pasture grazed by sheep and horses. There are also ducks, chickens, dogs and cats and maybe cows one day. A stream below the buildings meanders through some ancient woodland and the River Redlake runs along the northem boundary. The approach is by a private farm track, which ensures complete peace, privacy and safety. Xidong Cottage Xidong Cottage is a Japanese haven with a Chinese name meaning 'Rising Sun'; an oriental retreat in the heart of Shropshire. It is the perfect setting for two for a romantic weekend. Converted from an old cowshed, it has a private and secluded garden terraced with local stone and featuring two omamental ponds and a luxurious hot tub, which can be used at any time of year. A lean-to entrance way with cloakroom and washroom leads into the large main room, open to the eaves. Decorated in authentic Japanese style it has the feeling of space and luxury where you can relax, eat, listen to music or watch television. Large concertina doors open out onto a small wooden deck and the garden. A stone stairwell leads up from the living room to a small mezzanine bedroom with a low sloping ceiling. The modern well-equipped kitchen is separated from a slightly quirky 'wet' room by an extraordinary and unique curvy green glass wall. Squire Cottage Squire Cottage is an old farmhouse built from local stone, timber and plaster. It sits at the top of the Meadow looking down towards the River Redlake, the babbling brook and the ancient wet woodland. The cottage sleeps four people comfortably in two bedrooms. The front door opens into one large room with an inglenook fireplace complete with bread oven dominating the 'living' end. Here you can sit in comfortable old sofas and chairs in front of a large open fire telling stories, reading, listening to music, playing games or watching television. At the other end, there is a fully equipped kitchen with hand-built oak units and a large refectory table. There is also a small cloakroom with lavatory, washbasin and washing machine. Wooden stairs lead to a spacious landing a twin bedded room, a bathroom and a double room with a magnificent chimneybreast. The cottage keeps its ancient authenticity and rural feel by retaining the old beams complete with redundant peg holes through which the children can spy on their parents! There is central heating and hot water provided by an oil-fired boiler. Bed linen and towels are included in the price as are logs for the fire and electricity, there is a telephone in the cottage should you need one. A cot is available and children and well-behaved pets are welcome.
